Why most "eco" laundry detergent isn't
The phosphate cap was 5%. Now it's 0.5%. The rest of the formula didn't change.
Canadian regulation reduced phosphate content in laundry detergent in 2010. The petroleum surfactants, the "fragrance" loophole that hides phthalates, and the residue that runs into your local watershed weren't part of that rule. The Method
How Sampson Eco Laundry HE Actually Cleans.
Four steps. No phosphates. No quats. No phthalate-carrier fragrance. Built for high-efficiency front-loaders and HE top-loaders.
Step 1 — Soften the water, prime the load
Binds hard-water minerals and brings the wash water to working pH so surfactants don't waste their cleaning power on the water itself — less detergent, same clean.
Step 2 — Wetting + soil release
Drops water's surface tension so the detergent penetrates the fibre and pulls dirt off, not just over the surface.
Step 3 — Soil suspension + HE-compatible foam
Holds lifted dirt in suspension so it rinses out instead of redepositing on fabric. Foam stays low-suds for front-loaders.
Step 4 — Rinse-out, then break-down
Surfactants flush from the load and break down in wastewater treatment instead of building up in your watershed.
