Eco Body Wash

My skin used to feel tight the second I stepped out of the shower with my old body wash. Switched to this and that's gone — clean but not stripped. The unscented version suits me because I add my own lavender oil.

Eco Body Wash

Read the whole ingredient list before buying — I have eczema and I'm done guessing what's hiding under "fragrance." Recognized everything here. A few weeks in and no flare-ups. The aloe and almond oil are a real difference.

Eco Body Wash

I converted the whole household to Sampson — dish soap, hand soap, now this. Consistent quality and I trust what's on the label. A little goes a long way, the bottle lasts.

Eco Body Wash

Good wash, no tightness, skin feels conditioned. Took me one shower to get used to the lower foam compared to commercial body wash — once I did, no complaints. Would love to see a larger refill format to cut down on bottles.

What's behind the lather and the scent in conventional body wash

The tight, stripped feeling after a shower is the surfactant doing too much.

Conventional body wash is built on petroleum surfactants and a synthetic fragrance base — chosen for aggressive foam and strong scent, not for skin. The fragrance blend is undisclosed and can hide phthalates; the surfactant strips the skin barrier on contact.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate — the surfactant most conventional body washes are built on — is the dermatology gold-standard irritant control in skin patch testing, used across 43,000+ patients (European Society of Contact Dermatitis baseline series)

Phthalate metabolites are detectable in nearly all people tested in national biomonitoring — and synthetic "fragrance" in personal-care products is a recognized exposure route that needs no ingredient disclosure (CDC NHANES)

Nearly 100% of people tested have detectable phthalate levels in their bodies — fragranced personal-care products are a common route of exposure (CDC NHANES)

We Spent 30+ Years Cleaning Up Contamination. Then We Checked Under the Sink. Nous avons passé 30+ ans à décontaminer des sites. Puis nous avons regardé sous l'évier.

Diana Trasente and Angelo Diadelfo are environmental engineers with Master's degrees and over 30 years remediating contaminated soil and water across Canada. They know industrial chemicals intimately — PCBs, heavy metals, synthetic surfactants, petroleum solvents. Diana Trasente et Angelo Diadelfo sont des ingénieurs en environnement avec des maîtrises et plus de 30 ans d'expérience en décontamination de sols et d'eau au Canada.

Then they started reading the labels on their own household cleaners. The same classes of synthetic chemicals they spent their careers cleaning up were sitting in their kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room. Puis ils ont commencé à lire les étiquettes des nettoyants ménagers chez eux. Les mêmes classes de produits chimiques qu'ils passaient leur carrière à nettoyer se trouvaient dans leur cuisine, salle de bain et buanderie.

In 2010, they founded Sampson Eco Shop — applying the same scientific rigor to household cleaners that they applied to environmental remediation. Every product starts with one question: What's actually in here, and is it safe to put down a drain?

The Method

Balanced by Plants. Engineered by Engineers.

A plant-and-mineral surfactant blend balanced with coconut-derived co-surfactants, paired by Diana and Angelo Diadelfo, M.Eng. — environmental engineers since 2010.

1

Lower the surface tension on skin oils

The plant-and-mineral surfactant blend — led by alpha-olefin sulfonate and buffered by coconut-derived co-surfactants — drops the surface tension of water so it penetrates and lifts sweat, sebum, and daily grime off the skin — without the dermal-irritation profile of a petroleum-SLS body wash.

2

Emulsify, but protect the barrier

Cocamidopropyl Betaine and Lauramine Oxide pair with the primary surfactant to lift oils into a rinsable lather while keeping the formula mild — so the wash cleans without aggressively stripping the skin's moisture barrier.

3

Replace the moisture as it cleans

Glycerin holds water against the skin, while aloe vera, almond oil, and vitamin E condition and soothe — so the post-shower feeling is clean and supple instead of tight and stripped.

4

Rinse out, then break down

The surfactants rinse off the skin and break down in standard wastewater treatment to OECD 301D — instead of persisting in the watershed like slow-degrading petroleum surfactants. Phosphate-free throughout.

Format Matters

Read the label, not the marketing

What separates a genuinely formulated body wash from a conventional one and a greenwashed one — line by line.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers on skin, lather, scent, and what's in the bottle.

Yes. The surfactant base is at full strength, not diluted. The difference you'll notice is a softer, lower-volume lather and no tight, stripped feeling afterward — that comes from the gentler plant-and-mineral surfactant blend plus the aloe, almond oil, and vitamin E moisturizing layer, not from any loss of cleaning power.
It's formulated without synthetic fragrance carriers, phthalates, and parabens — common triggers in conventional body wash — and pairs the cleansing surfactant with aloe vera, almond oil, and vitamin E to protect the skin barrier. It ships unscented so sensitivity-prone skin can use it as-is. We don't make blanket "safe for sensitive skin" claims — the full ingredient list is on the bottle so you can decide.
On purpose. Synthetic fragrance bases are the most common hiding place for phthalates in personal-care products and a frequent skin-sensitivity trigger. Shipping unscented means households with sensitivities can use it as-is, and anyone who wants a scent can add a few drops from Sampson's 20+ natural essential-oil fragrances, sold separately — phthalate-free and paraben-free.
It contains Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, but the coconut-derived grade — not the petroleum feedstock. It's buffered in the formula by Cocamidopropyl Betaine and the aloe-almond-vitamin-E moisturizing layer, which mitigate the dermal load. The full ingredient list is on the label so you can read exactly what's in it.
Heavy, high-volume foam is a marketing signal, not a measure of cleaning. It usually comes from petroleum surfactants dosed for show. Sampson's plant-and-mineral surfactant blend produces a softer, lower-volume lather that cleans just as effectively — the lower foam is the formula working, not a performance deficit.
Yes. The surfactant system meets OECD 301D biodegradability — it breaks down in standard wastewater treatment rather than persisting in the watershed. Phosphate-free, like every product in the Sampson line.
It works fine as a body and hand wash. For hair, we'd point you to Eco Shampoo, which is built around scalp and hair-shaft chemistry — conditioning agents, a gentler isethionate surfactant, and hydrolyzed wheat protein that the body wash doesn't carry.
Yes. Formulated and bottled in Montreal by environmental engineers Diana and Angelo Diadelfo. Used by more than 20,000 Canadian households since 2010.
